During Zach Top's headline set at the Stars for Second Harvest ERNEST & Friends event at The Ryman Auditorium, ERNEST emerged for an enchanting cover of ‘Yesterday's Wine’.
The duo did the country classic justice, with their duet feeling more like a fun, light-hearted homage from two friends, and the crowd just happened to be listening in. Originally written and recorded by Willie Nelson back in 1971, ‘Yesterday's Wine’ was given a new lease of life when George Jones and Merle Haggard combined for a blockbuster rendition of the much-loved track, taking it to No. 1 in 1982.
It solidifies Top and ERN's status as two of the leading figures in country music's neo-traditional resurgence, with the good friends having teamed up in the past to cover old-school country greats such as Keith Whitley at Two Step Inn 2024 in Texas.
The proceeds from ERNEST's benefit concert, which has become a staple of the CMA Fest week calendar, go towards the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Elsewhere during Zach Top's spellbinding set, the ‘I Never Lie’ hitmaker delivered stunning takes on George Strait's ‘Amarillo By Morning’ and Merle Haggard's ‘Ramblin’ Fever’.
It comes the night after ERNEST linked up with Shaboozey for an impromptu rendition of ‘Flower Shops’ at the Whiskey Jam and Country Central showcase at Nashville's SkyDeck, with the excitement building ahead of CMA Fest 2025 on Thursday (June 5th).
