Zach Bryan has surprised fans by sharing two new songs to YouTube, ‘Like Ida’ and ‘28’, with listeners already clamouring for the ‘Something in The Orange’ singer-songwriter to give both tracks an official release on streaming platforms before too long.
‘Like Ida’ is a revamped version of the previously teased fan-favourite, which was initially dubbed, ‘Dallas’. Zach Bryan uploaded a clip of the song to TikTok back in October 2023.
The stripped-back ode revolves around a restless protagonist who's decided to leave his lover during a journey to Nashville, after growing disillusioned by the insincerity and lack of authenticity he perceives throughout Music City (“When you make it to Nashville / You can tell by one hat tilt / That that shit just ain’t my scene”). The titular lyric, ‘Like Ida’, is an abbreviated form of the phrase ‘Like I Do’.
In the clip for ‘Like Ida’, Zach Bryan performs the meandering track alongside his band-member, Chris Braun, who adds to the gravitas of the track with his noodling guitar.
In addition to ‘Like Ida’, Zach has treated fans to another unreleased song on YouTube, ‘28’. The atmospheric, piano-driven offering, which again features accompaniment from Braun, documents the temporary bliss to be enjoyed during an evening spent with his partner, despite being surrounded by the bleakness of the city.
Fans are hoping both ‘Like Ida’ and ‘28’ will appear on Zach Bryan's keenly awaited new album, alongside other recently shared unreleased tracks such as ‘Sandpaper’ and ‘The Great American Bar Scene’, both of which have appeared on Zach's 2024 setlist.
The latter is widely expected to be the name of the country-folk chart-topper's next project, and we're keeping our fingers crossed these two newly unveiled YouTube videos are not-so-subtle hints that the record will be arriving sooner rather than later.
