After sharing a cryptic photo of the two artists earlier in the day, Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs have now confirmed they have a blockbuster collaboration on the way.
The duo have joined forces for ‘Backup Plan’, a fiery, galvanising anthem that finds Zimmerman and Combs encouraging listeners to dust themselves off and keeping going after a setback.
Both chart-toppers flit between intimate, stripped-back offerings and rowdier, uptempo tracks throughout their catalogues, and it's safe to say ‘Backup Plan’ leans more towards the latter. The infectious offering feels cut from the same cloth as fan-favourites such as Zimmerman's ‘New to Country’ and Combs’ ‘Ain't No Love in Oklahoma’.
Unfortunately, there's no release date for ‘Backup Plan’ just yet, with Bailey Zimmerman teasing fans via Instagram, asking, “When should we drop this one?!...Gonna be a bangerrr”. Elsewhere on social media, the ‘Religiously’ singer-songwriter has hinted that we might not have to wait too long, sharing, “COMING SOON...”
Across the energising, electric-guitar-fuelled instrumental, Zimmerman and Combs trade verses as they offer a dose of sonic motivation, crooning, “If you got a fire, don't lose it / If you got a do-or-die dream, do it / If you've got something to prove, go and prove it / Don't let nobody clip your wings / Keep your head down, keep on the blinders / Tune out the doubters, and all the closed-minders”.
Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs then go on to deliver the satisfying, witty and wonderfully Nashvillian punchline, “Gettin’ back up, that's the only backup plan you need”.
Bailey Zimmerman first teased ‘Backup Plan’ back in January, shortly after the country prodigy received flak online for his seemingly inebriated Crash My Playa performance. At the time, the uplifting, reassuring message of the track felt like a response to the controversy, with Zimmerman reminding himself not to listen to his haters.
It seems Zimmerman is the lead artist on ‘Backup Plan’, given the fact that he initially shared it as a potential solo track, with the forthcoming track expected to feature on the ‘Holding On’ crooner's keenly anticipated new album. After releasing a smattering of singles over the past year or so, it seems the rollout is now accelerating.
It marks the latest in a string of high-profile duets from Bailey Zimmerman, with the Illinois native teaming up with BigXthaPlug for the hugely popular ‘All The Way’ earlier in April.
