It's the King of Tropical Country's birthday today (Wednesday, March 26th), so we're looking back at the endearing moment Kelsea Ballerini led an arena-wide sing-a-long in honour of the man himself, Kenny Chesney, during their tour-stop in Pennsylvania.
During Kenny Chesney's 2023 I Go Back run, which featured his good friend Kelsea Ballerini as direct support, the ‘There Goes My Life’ hitmaker brought out Ballerini for their trademark ‘half of my hometown’ duet. However, Ballerini then surprised her fellow Knoxville native by kicking off a jubilant rendition of the birthday song.
Any moment the duo share on-stage is special, with their friendship radiating throughout their performances, but this was undoubtedly a particularly memorable occasion.
This year, of course, Kenny Chesney received a once-in-a-lifetime birthday present, with the multiple Entertainer of the Year winner being unveiled as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2025 alongside June Carter Cash and Tony Brown.
In joining the hallowed institution, Kenny Chesney joins a shimmering pantheon of country music greats, including Dolly Parton, George Strait, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and many more.
Despite his penchant for laid-back, sun-soaked odes to island living and the emphasis his No Shoes Nation fanbase place on maintaining a vacation state of mind, Kenny Chesney has established a reputation as one of the hardest-working artists in the game.
As a result, even though it's his 57th birthday today, we imagine the ‘When I See This Bar’ singer-songwriter won't be taking much time away from rehearsals ahead of his keenly awaited residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere, which kicks off on May 22nd.
Kenny Chesney is set to become the first country artist to host a residency at the innovative, immersive venue. With a new book arriving in November, HEART LIFE MUSIC, 2025 is already shaping up to be another blockbuster year for the country legend.
But in the meantime, we'll be raising a glass of ice-cold Blue Chair Bay Rum as a toast to one of the most influential, revered and iconic country artists of the past few decades. It's safe to say a career as storied as yours is somethin’ that just don't happen twice.
