Tucker Wetmore's latest single has quickly garnered millions of streams just two weeks after its release on Dec. 5. At the same rate, the meaning behind ‘Proving Me Right’ has been subject to just as much speculation.
The pop-heavy country track is believed to be about Wetmore's ex and Nashville-based influencer, Bryana Ferringer, who starred in the young hitmaker's music video for his 2024 breakout hit, ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’. Ferringer most recently made headlines after she was spotted at the CMA Awards alongside country heartthrob Riley Green.
While this is all likely founded in fan-fueled conjecture, the pointed anthem, ‘Proving Me Right’, is without a doubt a personal number, laden with biting truths and a kind of wisdom that only comes from experience.
In a recent call with Holler, Wetmore addressed the new track, which serves as the artist's first solo release since his acclaimed debut album, What Not To, as well as the rumors that have accompanied it.
When asked about the recent gossip, Wetmore plainly responded with: "Every song's got its meaning."
Neither confirming nor denying what – or who – ‘Proving Me Right’ is really about, the artist simply stated that his songs are rooted in reality.
"I don't write songs to just write them," he explained. "I write them about my life and what I've got going on. I don't really talk about my personal life too often. That's the big reason why I write songs, so I don't really have to talk about things."
The rumors surrounding the new single don't seem to bother Wetmore in the slightest, with the star stating: "If people are talking that means I'm doing something right."
At the end of the day, Wetmore claimed to be "a songwriter at heart." As he shared, "I love writing songs about real life stuff. That's exactly what I do."
Whether or not ‘Proving Me Right’ is about Wetmore's relationship with Ferringer is unknown. What is certain, though, is that the song comes from the heart, telling a vulnerable tale of disappointment and heartache.
