Ahead of releasing his latest single, ’Burn My Boat’, today (Friday, July 31st), Kenny Chesney has offered fans an insight into why this track is a cornerstone of his new studio album.

The ‘I Go Back’ hitmaker releases his eagerly anticipated new record, Silver Sands Marina, on September 25th, featuring already-released singles, ‘Carry On’ and the title-track.

Speaking about the spirit he wanted the new song to embody, ‘Burn My Boat’, which serves as Track No. 1 on the project, Chesney reflects, “This was always the first song. No matter how many sequences, adding those three songs, ‘Burn My Boat’ was the exact thing I wanted to say, and it’s in the chorus, recognizing ‘where I’m supposed to be’ is that sense of true arrival, knowing where you’re supposed to be. When you’re restless, and I am, there is no greater peace or freedom”.

The ‘Here and Now’ crooner goes on, “Even more, ‘Burn My Boat’ wasn’t a song of surrender, but arrival. It builds and builds, like Lord Huron’s 'Ends of the Earth,' but what it delivers is what I think most of us are hoping to find. That line: Take this heart and light it/Send it up in smoke? It really is burning off all the things that distract us from what matters in this faster, harder, more world we deal with”.

Chesney concludes with a heartfelt message for his No Shoes Nation fanbase, “Whatever’s one’s truest passion is, when you find it, everything else falls into place and makes sense”.

‘Burn My Boat’ is a contemplative yet quietly hopeful ballad that feels like a departure sonically from the galvanising, electric-guitar-fuelled ambience of ‘Carry On’, but nonetheless still cut from that same joyful and unmistakably Chesney-esque tapestry.

‘Burn My Boat’ was penned by Casey Beathard, Tucker Beathard and Ryan Tyndall, and ensures the momentum remains high ahead of Silver Sands Marina, which features high-profile collaborations with Megan Moroney, Colbie Caillat and Lily Meola.
