According to a new report from Deadline, this Sunday's Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 finale won't be the last time viewers will get to see Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in action together.
Deadline has cited sources telling them that the previously rumoured spin-off, which would star Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their beloved roles as Beth and Rip, has been confirmed, with Kelly and Cole reportedly closing deals for the new series.
It follows Cole's comments last month about a potential spin-off, “I'm all for it...What would it look like? It would be a pretty amazing show. I think it's a lot of fireworks. I mean, look, with Taylor [Sheridan]'s writing, anything is possible, and, you know, if that's the direction he decides to go, I mean, I'm all for it - and I know Kelly would be too”.
Although details are yet to be unveiled, and the new series has not been given an official title or network announcement, we imagine it would be penned by Taylor Sheridan, the creator and writer behind Yellowstone and all its associated spin-offs.
One of the worst parts about a long-running series coming to an end, as Yellowstone seemingly will this Sunday, is the knowledge that you won't get to immerse yourself in that world and see how the various character arcs continue to develop.
On Yellowstone in particular, Beth and Rip have blossomed into fan-favourite characters, with their unorthodox yet devoted love-story becoming one of the most captivating parts of the show. As a result, the vast majority of viewers had been dreading the prospect of saying goodbye to them both after this weekend's grand finale.
However, Taylor Sheridan has ensured that the Yellowstone universe provides plenty of additional opportunities for fans to get lost in the complex Dutton family legacy, with Taylor writing a slew of spin-offs, including the critically acclaimed 1883 and 1923.
While the former was an evocative, self-contained tale, the latter ended on a tantalising cliff-hanger, and thankfully, Season 2 of 1923 now has a release date: February 23th, 2025.
Alongside these two spin-offs and the supposed Beth and Rip series, another Yellowstone offshoot has been confirmed, titled The Madison, which was originally called 2024.
In addition, there have been a plethora of alleged spin-offs in the works, including 6666 and 1944, while there are an increasing number of suggestions that Season 5 Part 2 of the main Yellowstone series might not be the final chapter after all.
These implications are strengthened by the fact that the promotional content for Sunday's episode are referring to it as the ‘Season Finale’, as opposed to the ’Series Finale’.
We'll have to wait and see how conclusive this weekend's closer is, before it becomes clear whether Taylor Sheridan and Paramount could have another instalment up their sleeves.
The finale of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 airs on the Paramount Network this Sunday, December 15th at 8/7c.
