Megan Moroney and Dylan Efron (Zach's brother) star in the brand new music video for ’Wish I Didn't’, the latest single to arrive from Moroney's third studio album, Cloud 9.

When watching the rip-roaring, action-packed visuals, you could be forgiven for thinking the plot feels a little familiar. Moroney and Efron play a married couple, with the duo embodying domestic bliss as they get ready to leave for their respective jobs.

Then, we learn that Moroney is actually a spy as she interrogates a potential criminal - and then we find out that Efron, too, is a spy! The duo hilariously bump into each other at their local supermarket while (rather conspicuously) shopping for spy tools.

As the tale comes to a head and they each realise that their other half is a spy, they plot to kill one another, with Moroney and Efron battling it out amidst a chaotic dinner brawl. Then, however, we get our final plot twist, as they learn that someone else has been watching them while they were obsessed with plotting murder, with the curtain closing on our two heroes emerging fretfully from the front door.

It's a stellar video and one that highlights how far Moroney has come, with the Georgia native continuing to cement herself as one of the leading figures in modern country music.

What's more, there's a deeper meaning behind the visuals, with the ‘Tennessee Orange’ hitmaker and the ‘Wish I Didn't’ director, Lauren Dunn, creating an homage to the beloved rom-com, Mr & Mrs Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. In that 2005 classic, after years of stagnating marriage, it finally dawns on the couple that they have been working covertly in the same industry throughout their entire relationship, with each partner then being instructed to kill the other.

Fans, meanwhile, are attempting to decipher both the visuals and the lyrics for this playful anthem to see if there's any thinly veiled reference to Moroney's rumoured ex, Riley Green. The line, “I can also make it rain” has been widely interpreted as a nod to Green's own break-up song, ‘Make It Rain’ - but we're not 100% convinced.

Perhaps there is another layer of meaning beneath the Mr & Mrs Smith tribute that somehow takes a dig at Green - but we're not so sure. Regardless, ‘Wish I Didn't’ is a fantastic, infectious country-pop earworm accompanied by a stellar music video. It ensures the excitement is sky-high ahead of Cloud 9, which drops on February 20th.
