Georgia's fast-emerging country-rockers, The Pink Stones, have announced a brand new album, You Know Who.
The 12-song project will be released on June 30, while the lead single, ‘Who's Laughing Now?’ has been made available immediately.
The record serves as the eagerly awaited follow-up to The Pink Stones’ widely celebrated 2021 album, Introducing...The Pink Stones, which spawned fan-favourites such as ‘Blueberry Dream’, ‘Shiny Bone’, ‘Barroom Blues’ and ‘Sweat Me Out’.
You Know Who will feature an array of guest appearances from the likes of Nikki Lane, Annie Leeth, The Deslondes’ John James Tourville and Teddy and The Rough Riders.
The latter contributed to the new single, ‘Who's Laughing Now?’, a playful middle-finger anthem.
The track finds The Pink Stones’ frontman, Hunter Pinkston, walking out the door from a relationship with a brave face (“All the times you've had to try and make things turn around / When I leave you're only gonna hear one sound”).
But then, by the time the second verse rolls funkily around, it becomes clear that the laughter that ensues throughout the chorus is only for show, with Pinkston still reeling from the break-up beneath the surface (“I guess it must be funny all the ways a heart can bend / Without breaking over and over again”).
The accompanying music video for ‘Who's Laughing Now?’ opens with the tail-end of a stand-up set from actor, comedian and writer, Chris Crofton.
Hunter Pinkston then steps onto the stage to do the same, and despite his performance initially receiving a frosty welcome, the audience end up in fits of laughter.
This is thanks in no small part to the help of a few spiked cupcakes that were handed out beforehand.
Speaking ahead of the release, Pinkston explained the inspiration behind the new single, “I wrote this song right after the first album came out. We were playing live a lot and I was wanting more and more loud, rockin’, funky songs to play. It’s sort of a spiteful break-up song.
Whether it be a friend, partner, boss, whatever… sometimes you gotta just walk right out the door and laugh on your way out”.
