The Avett Brothers dry spell is no more. The sibling-led folk ensemble has officially announced the release of their first full-length studio album since 2019's Closer Than Together. The self-titled collection, produced by Rick Rubin, will arrive May 17.
Over the nine-track release, the band will again mine the depths, all the while touching on the spiritual and existential, contemplating the personal and the divine.
The album has been billed as an exploration of the beauty of the little things, "In an ongoing attempt to comprehend existence and our interpersonal connectedness, these songs seek the sacred in the commonplace: a cheap cup of coffee, the smallest movement of love, broken hearts and school bus lessons, a baby’s first and second steps, growing older and holding on to one’s roots, losing someone and accepting fate, rediscovering hope and finding sanctity in tragedy...ultimately reveling in the fun and surrender of what we cannot understand."
With the news comes the album’s lead single ‘Love Of A Girl’, a frenzied indie rock-tinged anthem.
The album will arrive just as the group embarks on a spring and summer tour. The North American trek, which kicks off on May 16 and comes to a close on August 24, will include a number of stadium stops, including a 3-night stint at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. The ‘Ain’t No Man’ troubadours will be accompanied by City and Colour, Sierra Ferrell, Sammy Rae & The Friends and more along the way.
It was recently announced the band will also be hosting their own weekend of music, sand and sun with Moon Crush: An Avett Moon. The event will take place from November 8-10 at Miramar Beach, Florida. The lineup includes Band of Horses, Grace Potter, Greensky Bluegrass, Shakey Graves, Jamestown Revival and The Brook & The Bluff.
