The blockbuster line-up for California's Outside Lands Festival 2024 has dropped, with the genre-blending extravaganza due to feature a coveted performance from Sturgill Simpson, whose appearances have been few and far between of late.
This will mark Sturgill Simpson's first full-length show in three years, with the ‘You Can Have The Crown’ hitmaker expected to bring his classic, much-loved backing band, comprising Laur Joamets, Miles Miller and Kevin Black, together for the performance.
The Outside Lands line-up arrives after a mysterious countdown materialised on Sturgill's website, with fans speculating that the Kentucky singer-songwriter was gearing up to announce an album. The last time he shared a countdown of this kind, it led to the unveiling of his Metamodern Sounds in Country Music reissue. However, rather than revealing his first full-length project since 2021's The Ballad of Dood & Juanita, the clock was instead counting down to the festival news.
In addition, Post Malone will be following up his hotly anticipated Stagecoach country covers set this weekend (April 27th) with a country performance at Outside Lands Festival.
As this hasn't been billed as a ‘country covers’ set, we're hoping this means Posty will have some original country music out by the time Outside Lands rolls around on August 9-11.
It'll be fascinating to see whether Post Malone performs recently teased songs such as ‘I Had Some Help’ with Morgan Wallen and ‘I Ain't Got A Guy For That’ with Luke Combs.
Alongside Post Malone and Sturgill Simpson, country and Americana will be represented at Outside Lands through Charley Crockett, Paul Cauthen, Shaboozey and Katie Pruitt.
As for the non-country contingent, Outside Lands Festival attendees will be able to witness performances from the likes of Tyler, The Creator, The Killers, The Postal Service, Grace Jones, Kaytranada, Jungle, Chris Lake, Gryffin, Schoolboy Q, Killer Mike, Kevin Abstract, Teddy Swims, Victoria Monét, Tyla and Corinne Bailey Rae.
