SAM HUNT NEW ALBUM 2023

Possible Title: Outskirts

Expected Tracklist:

  • Outskirts
  • Walmart
  • Start Nowhere
  • Water Under The Bridge
  • 23
  • Came The Closest

Sam Hunt has long been dubbed the ‘Drake’ of country music, due to his laconic singing style, his direct, conversational lyrics and the rap-inspired instrumentals he so often embraces.

Another way in which Hunt can perhaps be likened to the Toronto Hip Hop star is in the unpredictability of his new releases.

Singles are often announced a matter of days before they drop, and Sam Hunt's album rollouts rarely follow a clear schedule or structure.

However, as Hunt releases yet another new single, the bittersweet ‘Outskirts’, we're starting to think he's readying a full-length album for later in the year.

In 2022, he confirmed that he's managed to get “a big chunk” of the project completed, so now he's hopefully just honing it.

‘Outskirts’ followed shortly after ‘Walmart’, both of which serve as the latest in a long line of one-off tracks that will presumably feature on the upcoming record.

The likes of ‘Start Nowhere’, ‘Water Under The Bridge’ and ‘23’ all follow in the sonic footsteps of Hunt's celebrated, genre-fusing 2020 album, Southside, which included his record-breaking hit single, ‘Body Like A Backroad’, along with fan-favourite tracks such as ‘Kinfolks’, ‘Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s’ and ‘Hard To Forget’.

Alongside his string of singles, Sam Hunt has been teasing a suite of new songs, such as ‘Came The Closest’.

Hunt shared a snippet of the unreleased ballad back in 2021, and ever since, fans have been keenly awaiting news of when the Georgia native will finally make it available.

Joining ‘Came The Closest’ in Sam Hunt's coveted unreleased pile of demos is a track that is speculatively titled, ‘Everything That Dies’.

Hunt posted a clip of him performing the quietly hopeful song last summer, and we're hoping it too makes its way onto the tracklist of his new album.

Another unreleased snippet that we'd like to hear a full studio version of is ‘Don't Take God Away’.

Hunt teased the track with a vulnerable, acoustic rendition on his socials back in October, and given the emotional weight and vulnerability of its lyrics - something the ‘Take Your Time’ hitmaker never shies away from - it would surely serve as a stellar inclusion on Hunt's upcoming project.

Although we're still waiting on a confirmed title and release date for the new record, given the fact that Sam Hunt has named his 2023 tour after his recent single, ‘Outskirts’, we suspect this might be a hint as to the name of the upcoming project.
