Riley Green took to the stage during the 2024 BMI Country Awards in Nashville to deliver a heartfelt cover of Alabama's ‘My Home's in Alabama‘, as part of the ceremony's star-studded tribute to Randy Owen. Owen was being given the 2024 BMI Icon Award, in recognition of his pivotal role as the groundbreaking band's lead singer.
Riley Green hails from Alabama, with the ‘Worst Way’ hitmaker making a point of lacing the scenery and values of his home-state into his music. Whether he's regaling listeners with a playful tale of cross-state betrayal on ‘Georgia Time’ or toasting Alabama Crimson Tide's dominance over the Tennessee Volunteers on ‘Hell of a Way to Go’, Riley proudly flies the flag of Alabama throughout his discography.
As a result, it felt like there was nobody more fitting to provide a tribute to the legendary country-rock band, Alabama, who blazed a trail for today's generation of rock-leaning artists.
Donning a cowboy hat and accompanied by his trusty acoustic guitar, the ‘Don't Mind If I Do’ singer-songwriter offered a sincere rendition of Alabama's 1980 hit, ‘My Home's in Alabama’.
Riley Green is set to perform again this evening at the 2024 CMA Awards, with the ‘Jesus Saves’ crooner joining his fellow Alabama artist, Ella Langley, for a live take on their viral smash, ‘You Look Like You Love Me’. The duet is up for Musical Event of the Year.
Elsewhere during the 2024 BMI Country Awards’ Alabama tribute, Luke Bryan performed ‘Feels So Right’ and Blake Shelton delivered his version of the iconic ‘Mountain Music’. In addition, Ella Langley teamed up with Lukas Nelson and Aaron Raitiere for a stellar live performance of The Beatles’ ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’.
The BMI Country Awards have become a celebrated staple of Nashville's November pre-CMA calendar, with last year's event featuring momentous performances from the likes of Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Kenny Chesney and more.
