Riley Green has become the first artist since Taylor Swift to land back-to-back solo-written No. 1 singles on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, marking a rare songwriting milestone in modern country music.
He reached No. 1 with "Don't Mind If I Do", his hit duet with Ella Langley, becoming the first artist in 14 years to achieve the feat since Swift reached No. 1 with "Sparks Fly" and "Ours" in 2011 and 2012.
The single has been gaining major traction since its release in September 2024, following the duo's other No. 1 hit, the viral smash "You Look Like You Love Me", which cemented both their places in the modern country music landscape.
In contrast to their former collaboration, "Don't Mind If I Do" is a tender, pining moment. Green and Langley yearn to tell each other how much they still care for one another after a long-night of whiskey drinking and mixed emotions.
Of Green's recent singles, it's personally our favourite. The vulnerability in Green's songwriting and their performance softens Green's usual machismo and Langley's badass attitude, humanising them in more ways than we'd bargained for.
Matching a feat once achieved by Taylor Swift at the peak of her country era shows just how far Riley Green has come. It also hints at the stratospheric heights he could reach in the years ahead.
The milestone also highlights Green's talent as a solo songwriter - a notable accomplishment in a country music industry that often favours co-writing and songwriting rounds.
What's next for Green? Well, I think many of us are hoping for more collaborations with Ella Langley in the future, but in the meantime he's set for the biggest shows of his career in 2026, including a hot date at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in April as part of the Cowboy As It Gets tour.
