When releasing his new country album, F-1Trillion, on August 16th - and promptly adding another nine solo songs as part of the Long Bed deluxe - one song listeners were immediately drawn to was Post Malone's deeply personal ode to his daughter, ‘Yours’.
Excitingly, during a recent interview, Post Malone has confirmed he has plenty more songs penned about his daughter, whose initials are ‘DDP’, which Posty has tattooed on his forehead.
When asked by Anthony Mason on CBS whether ‘Yours’ was the first track he'd written for his two-year-old, Post Malone responded, “No, sir, I've written a whole lot of songs”.
Bearing in mind the fact that Posty also shared with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music that his most vulnerable offering was not included on the original 18-song F-1Trillion tracklist, we're hoping he has plans to release more music about his daughter.
It's possible he was referring to one of the nine Long Bed tracks when speaking about this ‘most vulnerable’ track, with ‘Killed a Man’ and ’Back to Texas’ both exploring personal themes relating to his progression from his wild, party-loving persona.
During his CBS conversation, the ‘I Had Some Help’ hitmaker delved into how his relatively new roles as a father and a fiancé have radically and positively transformed his outlook.
Posty joked about how his ‘DDP’ tattoo means he'll always have his daughter on his mind - “I'll never forget her...If you've heard her cry, you'll never forget her either!” - before endearingly reflecting, “It changes your life in the best way ever, and the most beautiful thing is she has a beautiful mom...Her and her mom [saved my life]...four years ago, I was on a rough path....[I was struggling] with everything”.
The New York native then touched on the sense of isolation that was behind his struggles, which he thankfully no longer contends with, “[It was] loneliness. I was getting up, having a good cry, drinking, then going living your life, then whenever you go lay down, drinking some more and having a good cry, like ‘I've gotta wake up tomorrow do this again’. I don't feel like that anymore, and it's the most amazing thing”.
F-1Trillion: Long Bed has only been out for a few days, but is already being hailed by many listeners as a leading contender for 2024 Album of the Year. Post Malone showcases his rich, textured appreciation for a spectrum of country music sub-genres across the project, with the Long Bed expansion finding Posty experimenting with exhilarating Western Swing and classic honky-tonk flourishes.
