Post Malone and Chris Stapleton have teamed up for an electric 2024 CMA Awards performance of ‘California Sober’, one of the many stand-outs from Posty's widely lauded debut country album, F-1Trillion (Long Bed), which dropped in August.

Ahead of the CMA Awards ceremony, which took place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, Post Malone and Chris Stapleton's star-studded ‘California Sober’ link-up was undoubtedly one of the most eagerly anticipated performances of the evening.

And it's safe to say it didn't disappoint, with Post Malone's sinuous vibrato combining with Chris Stapleton's signature drawl, as the duo regaled the Music City audience with the playful, retro-tinged tale of a man who loses everything after giving a hitchhiker a ride.

Although Post Malone has played ‘California Sober’ before, this excitingly marks the first time Posty and Chris Stapleton have joined forces to deliver the swaggering track live.

Both artists carried a similarly endearing sense of humility, while still bringing a charismatic energy to their performance. Of course, neither Post nor Stapleton is a stranger to a high-profile on-stage collaboration, with the latter teaming up with Dua Lipa for a memorable duet of ‘Think I'm in Love with You’ during the 2024 ACM Awards.

Post Malone, meanwhile, has made a habit of bringing out guest vocalists during his hugely popular 2024 F-1Trillion tour, ranging from contemporary trailblazers such as HARDY and ERNEST to genre veterans like Darius Rucker and Blake Shelton.

The CMA Awards have always been a breeding ground for stunning, genre-blending collaborations, and this will surely go down as one of the biggest moments from the 2024 ceremony. After Post Malone's appearance at the 2023 event alongside Morgan Wallen and HARDY, which served as his first tentative step into the genre, this performance with Chris Stapleton feels like a full-circle moment for Posty. Last year, he was a country music hopeful, testing the waters with a Joe Diffie cover, but now, Post Malone has blossomed into a fully fledged country megastar, who's preparing to embark on his first ever headlining stadium tour in 2025, thanks to the immense success of his F-1Trillion (Long Bed) record.
