Moments after unveiling the release date for his long-awaited single, ‘The Great Divide’, Noah Kahan has returned to social media to share a heartfelt video message to fans, hinting at “lots” more music on the way and another announcement soon.

In the clip, which Kahan appears to have recorded after a lengthy hike in South America, the folk trailblazer begins in his usual - and hilarious - light-hearted and self-deprecating tone, “Hey everybody it's Noah Kahan, singer-songwriter, and I am in Patagonia right now, I just went on a 16 mile hike (better than you), and it was awesome”.

Kahan jokes, “I'm very in touch with nature and geology now, and it's so cool to be so smart and so pretentious, so it's great. It's beautiful here but what's most beautiful is the reaction to me dropping ‘The Great Divide’ release date, which I know for so many people has been a long time coming, and I want to say thank you so much”.

The Vermont native goes on to confirm that there's plenty more on the horizon, “The reaction has been blowing me away, and I just love y'all and I'm grateful for you guys’ patience. I'm so excited for this year. But I do want to warn you - once this song comes out, it's gonna start coming fast. Things are going to start happening very quickly. It might be hard to hold on. But I want you guys to know there's lots of music coming out - and more than you probably even think - and there's lots of things that are going to happen. And if I couldn't be vaguer, let me try: lots of things are going to occur in a timeframe yet to be announced that'll include music in all of its forms...and I think I've dropped enough information right there to really lead you onto something. Get you on a wild hunch”.

The ‘Northern Attitude’ singer-songwriter concludes on a sincere note, “But yeah, love y'all. Thank you so much. I'm super sunburnt, my legs hurt, I am somehow even more gross-looking than I was before. But I'm just grateful for all of it and enjoying life, enjoying the response. So thank you so much. Love you guys”.

Then, tantalisingly, Kahan adds, “I will see you on the 28th”. Crucially, ‘The Great Divide’ comes out on January 30th, which has left us wondering whether Kahan's reference to “the 28th” was simply a mistake, or whether it's another easter egg for fans.

Given how meticulous the cryptic teasers and clues have been throughout the rollout for Kahan's forthcoming album, we have an inkling that he knows exactly what he's doing.

Perhaps January 28th, two days before the arrival of ‘The Great Divide’, is when Kahan is planning to officially announce his new album. His descriptions of sharing “music in all its forms” with fans during a specific “timeframe” could suggest there will be an accompanying tour, too, as well as possibly being a hint that he'll be dropping the album on vinyl, cassette, CD, etc. The latter feels like a given for an an artist and project of this scale, so we're not sure this is what he's teasing with this video message, and we suspect he's primarily referring to a tour.

It's incredibly exciting to learn that, after making us wait the best part of four years since his last full-length studio album, Stick Season, there is a plethora of new music en route. Judging by Kahan's words here, it appears the ‘Orange Juice’ crooner is suggesting there will be a run of singles in the lead-up to the album dropping.

As we've outlined before, we're predicting that Kahan will be releasing his new record on Friday, March 20th, which coincides with the first day of Spring. He's been sharing a number of clues related to “the last of the bugs” - a lyric from the final song on Stick Season - even setting up a not-so-secret TikTok account called @thelastofthebugs. In a special letter shared with fans on New Year's Day, Kahan implied the next album would be arriving “when the bugs don't die”, which many assume is Spring. Stick Season revolved around the often challenging and isolating period during the late Fall and early Winter in New England.

Could this next era be a warmer, more joyful chapter in Kahan's catalogue, inspired by Spring and perhaps even Summer? We'll have to wait and see - but we'll be keeping our eyes peeled on January 28th for what we hope is another big announcement...
