Noah Kahan has responded after the official President Donald Trump and White House Instagram pages shared a post using Kahan's song, ‘American Cars’, as the soundtrack.

Kahan has made it clear he and his team did not sanction this, commenting under the post, “Would never approve of my music being used to support you of this administration’.

The post appears to have been deleted. It was a clip from Trump's appearance and speech about the automobile industry at General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan.

Kahan has never explicitly declared where his political allegiances lie, but he previously showed support for Democratic candidate Molly Gray in her 2022 congressional campaign, as well as bringing out one of the most widely known Democratic politicians, Bernie Sanders, during his hometown show in Vermont in late 2024.

It's not the first time the Trump administration has caught flak from artists for using their songs. In December 2025, for instance, Sabrina Carpenter condemned the administration's use of ‘Juno’ in a video celebrating the controversial ICE immigration raids, with Carpenter denouncing it as “evil and disgusting”, adding, “Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda”.

Similarly, Ariana Grande clapped back when her song ‘Bye’ was used in a June 2026 video promoting deportations, with Grande making her stance clear, “Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense”. There have been other incidents involving Jess Glynne, Beyoncé and more.

‘American Cars’ features on Kahan's widely lauded new album, The Great Divide, alongside fan-favourites like ‘Porch Light’, ‘Willing and Able’ and the immensely viral ‘Orbiter’. Kahan is currently in the middle of his The Great Divide World Tour.
