After years of snippets, teasers and patience - lots of patience - it looks like we might finally be getting a new album announcement from Noah Kahan. And judging by his latest clue, the unveiling could be coming as early as today (Tuesday, January 20th).

Under a (hilarious) TikTok of a woman mimicking Kahan's ‘Ooh’ in ‘Everywhere, Everything’ and likening it to an owl, the Vermont native has responded with some (equally hilarious) context, “My buddy used to tell me to pretend to be an owl when we were high as hell and that’s where I got the inspiration for that vocal part lol full circle”.

While we'd love to dwell on this bizarre anecdote a little longer, Kahan followed this up with a major revelation. When a fan asked him in the same comment chain, “Noah! What are you doing here? Also, can you release your new album soon. Thanks”, to everyone's surprise, Kahan replied, “Check ur phone tomorrow afternoon”. Since then, Kahan has shared an animation of bugs crawling across the screen across his socials, seemingly confirming an imminent announcement.

This has promptly sent Kahan's fanbase into a frenzy, because it definitely seems like he's implying he'll be announcing his eagerly anticipated new album today (January 20th). It's the latest in a string of cryptic teasers and easter eggs from Kahan.

Shortly before Christmas, the ’Stick Season’ hitmaker launched a not-so-secret second TikTok account, titled ‘@thelastofthebugs’, with Kahan then proceeding to hint that his new studio album would be arriving when “the bugs don't die”. This, we suspect, means he'll be dropping the project in Spring, possibly even the first day of Spring, March 20th, which conveniently happens to be a Friday.

The ‘Northern Attitude’ singer-songwriter has since been keeping fans updated on the status of his album, with Kahan again stating that the project is finished and apologising to fans for the lengthy wait via a recent Instagram Story, “It's so hard to not be able to explain why this album took me so long to make or why we all have to wait even though it's done. It's frustrating to not be able to tell you guys more. My only hope is that when it comes out you guys are like “oh I get it now””.

Kahan has all but confirmed the lead single for this next chapter of music will be ‘The Great Divide’, which he has been performing at virtually all his shows over the past year or so.

Kahan has previously cited this track as being a cornerstone of the new project, with the ‘Homesick’ trailblazer uploading a new studio snippet of the track - featuring an eye-catching guitar solo - via his official social media account last week.

This will be Kahan's first original full-length album since 2022's Stick Season. Granted, he's been keeping us well-fed in the meantime, with an expanded We'll All Be Here Forever project, a live project and countless star-studded collaborations. But even so, we're looking forward to hearing another studio record from the folk titan - and thankfully, it seems we don't have too much longer before we get it.

It's possible, of course, that Kahan is just trolling his fans and being his typical, unserious self with this latest comment. However, while Kahan is often a little silly on social media - a quality we love about him - we don't think he'd play about something like this, particularly given the fact he knows how much this means to his fans.

So we'll be keeping our eyes peeled across social media this afternoon, in the hope that today really is the day we finally get the news of the ‘Orange Juice’ crooner's new album...
