Morgan Wallen has surprised listeners by releasing a re-recorded version of his 2015 single, ‘Spin You Around (1/24)’. The country megastar has taken to his socials to explain how he's attempting to direct listeners away from the new Stand Alone (10th Anniversary Edition), which has been released by his old label against his will.
Over the years since its release almost ten years ago, ‘Spin You Around’ has remained a beloved track for fans, and today's rendition breathes new life into the stripped-back love-song.
Morgan's signature drawl floats across a gentle, meandering acoustic guitar riff, with Joey Moi and Brian Sutton helping to give the song a fresher, crisper feel compared to the original.
It's a situation that inevitably feels reminiscent of Taylor Swift's re-recording process, with both artists deciding to go down this route in order to regain control over their releases.
Across social media, Morgan Wallen underlined his frustration at the money-grabbing antics of his previous label and managers, “It's gross, greedy and an example of how the dark side of the music business can suck the soul out of artists”.
The chart-topping singer-songwriter went on to explain how his revamped rendition of ‘Spin You Around (1/24)’ is one prong of his response, “I re-recorded ‘Spin You Around (1/24)’ this week in Nashville...Thank you Joey Moi & Bryan Sutton”, before joking about how he flexed his creative muscles for the single cover, “I did the artwork myself while in the woods duck hunting. Hope you like it, lol”.
The second part of Morgan's rebuttal against his old team is a $100,000 donation from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals For The Arts.
He stressed that he hopes this will help up-and-coming artists gain the legal advice they need when considering record deals and handling contracts for the first time, “I hope young aspiring musicians read this story and know they should never have to give up their creative freedoms for an opportunity in this business”.
Given the fervent loyalty of Morgan Wallen's fanbase, it feels safe to say they'll be steering clear of the eight new songs on Stand Alone (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition), and will instead be streaming ‘Spin You Around (1/24)’ on repeat in support of Morgan.
