During her recent show at the Eagles Ballroom, Milwaukee, Megan Moroney gave fans a heartwarming message about why she loves to play one of her older fan-favourite tracks, ‘Girl In The Mirror’.

Written with Jessie Jo Dillon and Matt Jenkins, ‘Girl In The Mirror’ was billed as the track that told Moroney’s story back when her first album, ‘Lucky’, came out in 2023.

“It’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written,” she said as she began her love letter to the track and, by extension, to everyone in the room who could relate. “I wrote it as a reminder to never love the boy more than I love me.”

A sentiment that resonated viscerally around the ballroom as fans erupted into screams, understanding the message and tuning into what song was coming next.

Moroney went on to say, “at the time when I wrote this song, I used to think that being strong meant sticking with him and, now that I’m a little older, I realise that the strength is in walking away as soon as you know you deserve better.”

The ‘Man on the Moon’ singer is no stranger to songs about heartbreak, and it seems that this emo cowgirl has had her fair share, but ‘Girl In The Mirror’ holds a special place for Moroney – and girls everywhere – reminding her to know her worth and find someone better.

Both Lucky and Am I Okay? have proven exceptional bodies of work for Moroney, both possessing overarching themes of broken hearts and disappointments.

However, Moroney has said that her new music is ‘a lot happier than you’d expect’, because that’s where she’s at in life. Now, with ‘6 Months Later’ finally out in the world, we’re excited to see how the girl who ‘writes sad songs for sad people’ embraces this carefree side of her music.
