Despite it now coming up to three years since ‘Tennessee Orange’ was released and all those Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen rumours were first sparked, fans continue to be fascinated by the status of Moroney and Wallen's current relationship.

After Moroney was clocked seemingly mouthing ‘Morgan Wallen’ during a prank call about getting back with an ex to her friend for Elle Magazine, the Georgia native was asked about her feelings about the ’Last Night’ hitmaker by People Magazine.

The Georgia native underlines there is no bad blood, “I think Morgan is great”, before showing some love to his latest project, “And his new album [I'm the Problem] is great”.

She goes on to stress that fan-fuelled speculation will never deter her from writing about a certain situation, “I never let the possibility that people might speculate who [a song] is about stop me from writing about how this situation made me feel”.

Of course, it all started when Moroney started teasing ’Tennessee Orange’ back in 2022 by sharing a photo of her wearing a Volunteers shirt, with Wallen commenting and hinting that it belonged to him. This kicked off rumours that the two were dating, with this intrigue reaching fever pitch upon the song's eventual release.

Moroney remained coy on the topic, but confirmed the jersey did indeed belong to Wallen to SiriusXM, before providing some further context on Call Her Daddy last summer, clarifying that they were never exclusive, adding, “It was never a relationship. Here's what I'll tell you though, because I haven't told anyone this ever. So him and I met in 2020, Jon Langston actually introduced us. I was a senior in college, COVID hadn't happened yet, his Dangerous album wasn't even out yet...So we're friends for a long time, we're not just friends, and now we're friends”.

Even so, fans have refused to let it go, with various, intricate theories claiming Moroney and Wallen may have been subtly writing about each other over the years on songs such as ‘Tennessee Fan’, ‘Mama, I Lied’, ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’ and, most recently, ’TN’.

With Moroney gearing up to release a brand new album, Cloud 9, in February, followers will no doubt be eagerly looking forward to deciphering and decoding any veiled references to the ‘Noah’ singer-songwriter's rumoured recent love interest, Riley Green.

Following a flurry of social media clues and hints that Moroney and Green were spending time together, Moroney then suggested that “he f***ed up” during a later tour-stop. Just this week, another of Green's suspected flames, Ella Langley, unfollowed Moroney on IG, with the internet abuzz as to whether this confirms their fling.

The famously private Wallen will most likely be glad that this has temporarily taken the glare of fan conjecture off of him, but it has undoubtedly been disappointing to see media interest in the apparent Moroney-Green-Langley love triangle sometimes eclipsing coverage of each artist's actual releases in recent months.

Hopefully, the attention will return to the music by the time Moroney drops Cloud 9 on February 20th. And given the history Moroney and Wallen have - as well as the fact that they're two of the biggest country artists on the planet right now - we'd love to see a blockbuster, genre-shattering collaboration between these two...
