Marty Stuart has announced a new digital acoustic album.
The record, called Songs I Sing in the Dark, is a collection of 20 acoustic songs that he’ll debut on a monthly basis. The first song to be released is his version of ‘Ready for the Times to Get Better’.
In a video to accompany the announcement, Stuart said it embodies the spirit of this new project during the last year.
“Songs are like magic carpets — they can transport you from wherever you are to somewhere we want to be,” he says, setting up the new recording.
“And I think this last year, we probably all agree, we wanted to be somewhere else. Anywhere but reality, right? We’ve all been shackled to the same problem.”
‘Ready for the Times to Get Better’ was originally penned by Allen Reynolds for Crystal Gayle who made it a number one hit on the country charts in 1976.
The Country Music Hall of Famer, Marty Stuart has stripped the song right down to just the basic guitar and vocals for the sombre, minor key tune.
Full details for the project have not yet been announced, but Stuart says “I have a long line of songs that range from obscure, originals, to old favourites from various musical worlds that I often sing to myself when I’m alone”.
