Yellowstone star and budding musical talent Luke Grimes proved that his songs are just as captivating as his acting during a debut performance at Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee on Sept. 24.

The country music newcomer ran through the entirety of Pain Pills Or Pews, his forthcoming eight-song debut album. Opening with his latest single 'Burn', Grimes also delved into the Foy Vance-penned 'Hold On', alongside fellow singles 'No Horse To Ride', his first, as well as 'Playin’ On The Tracks'.

Several other unreleased songs that aren't taken from Grimes' soon-to-be-released project also filled out the show, with the biggest standouts being 'How Long Does It Take' and 'South Of 75'. However, it wasn’t just his own songs that Grimes was rolling through.

Also squeezed into his set were covers of Blaze Foley’s 'Clay Pigeons', Kings Of Leon’s 'Back Down South' and Colton Venner’s 'Where It’s Blue', the latter of which will also appear on his forthcoming record. Together, the three songs comprised some of the show’s more up-tempo moments, in a sea of somber and relatively stripped-back ballads.

With a start date for returning to the set of Yellowstone to finish season five not yet confirmed, Grimes will be taking his guitar and country western ballads out on the road for a dozen shows to round out 2023, including his debut at Red Rocks supporting Midland and Stephen Wilson Jr. on Oct. 14. He’ll also make his second straight appearance at California’s country music festival, Stagecoach, in 2024 after playing one of his first shows there the year prior.
