Around four months after first announcing her debut country album, Lasso, Lana Del Rey and Quavo have teased what fans are describing as a ‘Country-Trap’ collaboration, ‘Tough’. The duo have now confirmed ‘Tough’ will drop on Independence Day, July 4th.
While the latest snippet, which the duo have shared across socials, contains a hazy mix of rap, country, folk and indie-pop influences, the lyrics and overall aesthetic that Lana Del Rey and Quavo have opted for certainly seem to ground the track in country.
The brief clip has been accompanied by an image of Quavo embracing Lana Del Rey while leaning against a fence on what appears to be a ranch, with the two being photographed against a bucolic backdrop of a sprawling field and a couple of outbuildings.
The fact that Quavo was the first to tease the star-studded collaboration back in May - and the first to announce the release date - suggests he'll be the lead artist on the song. As a result, it looks like ‘Tough’ will not be appearing on Lasso, and may simply represent an isolated foray into country's outer edges from the Atlanta rapper.
The visuals that were shared with this first teaser featured Quavo and Lana Del Rey on a front porch, which again accentuates the apparent attempts to frame this as a country offering.
Lana Del Rey continues to link up with a plethora of big-name acts, both within country and across other genres, with the ‘Video Games’ hitmaker emerging during Megan Moroney's set at Hangout Music Festival 2024 to perform ‘Tennessee Orange’, as well as surprising Stagecoach 2024 attendees with a Paul Cauthen duet.
In addition, Lana has previously been photographed with the likes of Lainey Wilson, Lukas Nelson and Jelly Roll, with fans hoping all three will make appearances on Lasso.
