Lainey Wilson has officially entered her next era of music, with the Bell Bottom Country star today releasing her brand new song, ’Country's Cool Again’ (Friday, February 16).
At the start of February, Lainey Wilson sharing the atmospheric black-and-white artwork for the track, which features Lainey sat on an old chair against a hay-filled backdrop, hinting at the traditional-leaning creative direction of the song.
Now that ‘Country's Cool Again’ has been released out in the world, the sense of anticipation has sky-rocketed ahead of Lainey's blockbuster Bell Bottom Country follow-up.
The track finds Lainey crooning charismatically across a twangy, uptempo instrumental about how the ‘country’ aesthetic has become popularised in mainstream culture.
The 2023 CMA Entertainer of the Year winner first teased ‘Country's Cool Again’ in October, with fans clamouring for Lainey to make the swaggering, uptempo track available.
As part of the initial announcement, Lainey touched on the inspiration behind the new song, “Country isn’t just a genre for me or for any of us that live and breathe it every single day. It’s a way of life. It’s always been cool and I think I speak for everyone when I say, we’re just glad it’s gettin’ a lil more recognition and love these days”.
She concluded with the tongue-in-cheek sign-off, “Welcome to the party, cowgirls and cowboys”, with Lainey seemingly referencing the influx of mainstream artists venturing into the genre of late, including Post Malone, Lana Del Rey and more.
Many are speculating that ‘Country's Cool Again’ will serve as the title-track for Lainey's hotly anticipated new album, which is widely expected to arrive in the coming months.
With the ‘Wildflowers and Wild Horses’ hitmaker preparing to embark on her 2024 Country's Cool Again Tour in March, there's a chance - albeit a slim one - that she could even release the full project before she kicks off this blockbuster run of shows.
In an Instagram video of a recording session, which Lainey Wilson shared in early February, the Louisiana singer-songwriter appeared to reveal some of the lyrics to ‘Country's Cool Again’. Additionally, judging by the date on the document in the clip, it looks like the track was written almost a year ago on March 29 2023 by Lainey Wilson, Aslan Freeman, Dallas Wilson and Trannie Anderson.
