When Lainey Wilson announced the tracklist for her keenly anticipated 2024 studio album, Whirlwind, fans were surprised to see the popular ‘Bell Bottoms Up’ - which the Louisiana native had been performing out on tour - omitted from the tracklist.
Thankfully, the ‘Heart Like a Truck’ singer-songwriter is finally making ‘Bell Bottoms Up’ available, with the track already up on streaming platforms in New Zealand, where it has gone midnight. This means that when it hits 12am wherever you're listening from, you'll also be able to enjoy Lainey Wilson's infectious new single.
It's a feel-good, honky-tonkin’ anthem, which finds Lainey Wilson paying homage to her traditional-leaning country roots and showcasing her trademark swagger and charisma.
Across the lively, uptempo instrumental, the ‘Country's Cool Again’ crooner quips, “I'm filling up these jeans, like I do my cup / Throw it back, throw it down / Bell bottoms up”.
It's a tongue-in-cheek nod to how Lainey Wilson's signature bell-bottoms went viral in 2022, following the 2024 CMA Entertainer of the Year's lauded Bell Bottom Country record.
‘Bell Bottoms Up’ also serves as the name of Lainey Wilson's Nashville bar, which opened last year, with the pun combining Wilson's classic style with Music City's penchant for a drinking song. It's not yet clear whether the newly released track is set to be a standalone single, or whether it's the first taste of a Whirlwind (Deluxe).
Given the fact that ‘Bell Bottoms Up’ was clearly written as part of the Whirlwind sessions, we imagine it's intended to be part of that chapter in Lainey Wilson's discography, rather than being a preview of Wilson's next album. Either way, it's a certified earworm, so we're just glad we can stream the full version at long last.
