Country trailblazer, Lainey Wilson, joined legendary rock band, The Rolling Stones, for a rip-roaring duet of the latter's hit song, ‘Dead Flowers’, taken from their 1971 album, Sticky Fingers.

Lainey brought the swagger and charisma she's become synonymous with to the Soldier Field stage in Chicago, with the performance permeated by a sense of playful, jubilant energy.

Despite the track's dark undertones of heartbreak and substance abuse, ‘Dead Flowers’ remains an uptempo, sing-a-long classic, with the packed-out crowd roaring back each lyric to Lainey and Mick Jagger as they delivered the much-loved offering.

The decision to bring out Lainey Wilson for this song in particular felt apt, given the fact that The Rolling Stones refer to ’Dead Flowers’ as one of the group's few truly country.

Mick Jagger explained in a 2003 interview, “The ‘country’ songs we recorded later, like ‘Dead Flowers’ on Sticky Fingers or ‘Far Away Eyes’ on Some Girls, are slightly different (than our earlier ones). The actual music is played completely straight, but it's me who's not going legit with the whole thing, because I think I'm a blues singer, not a country singer - I think it's more suited to Keith's voice than mine”.

Lainey Wilson contributed to the widely lauded 2023 Stoned Cold Country covers album, with the ‘Hang Tight Honey’ singer-songwriter taking the helm for a rousing take on one of the most formidable Rolling Stones hits to tackle, a powerhouse, seven-minute rendition of their 1969 classic, ‘You Can't Always Get What You Want’.

The Rolling Stones have embraced country influences throughout their highly decorated career, with the band recruiting Tyler Childers, The Red Clay Strays and The War and Treaty as support for their 2024 Hackney Diamonds tour, in addition to Lainey Wilson, who teamed up with the British band as a one-off in Chicago, Illinois.
