Jordan Davis’ full-circle ballad, ‘Next Thing You Know’, has become his sixth No. 1 single, just a few months after ‘What My World Spins Around’ earned the same honour in January.
The sweet, heartwarming track appears on the Louisiana native's celebrated 2023 album, Bluebird Days, and has been a fan-favourite ever since it was released ahead of the project in February.
The much-loved song has ascended to the peak of the Mediabase country chart, overtaking Morgan Wallen's streaming juggernaut, ‘Last Night’, which has dominated the charts for the past few months. This week, ‘Next Thing You Know’ received 8547 spins, with ‘Last Night’ lagging slightly behind on 8502 during this frame.
‘Next Thing You Know’ treads in similar footsteps to Jordan Davis’ Luke Bryan-assisted hit, ‘Buy Dirt’, with both songs exploring more introspective, wistful territory compared to Davis’ earlier chart-toppers, such as the pop-infused ‘Singles You Up’ and ‘Take It From Me’.
‘Next Thing You Know’ impressively packs a lifespan of big moments into three minutes, with Davis and his team of co-writers, Josh Osborne, Greylan James and Chase McGill, taking the listener on a deeply evocative journey through falling in love, moving in together, getting married, having children and watching them grow up and move out.
After a series of high-profile supporting dates - including an opening slot on Luke Combs’ tour last year - Jordan Davis has a slew of headlining shows on the books throughout 2023, including performances in Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois and more.
With ‘Next Thing You Know’ now having reached the peak of the Mediabase chart, as well as sitting inside the Top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, it remains to be seen which track Jordan Davis will choose as his hotly anticipated follow-up single.
Given the fact that ‘Tucson Too Late’ was originally going to be shipped to Country Radio instead of ’Next Thing You Know’, it seems this is the most likely candidate for Davis’ seventh No. 1 hit.
