Jelly Roll checked off another colossal milestone last night (Tuesday, April 29th), with the ‘Need a Favor’ singer-songwriter delivering his first ever stadium show.
Serving as direct support for Post Malone on his Big Ass Stadium Tour, Jelly Roll packed his set with fan-favourites from his genre-blending discography, including recent hits such as, ‘Liar’, ‘Get By’ and ‘I Am Not Okay’, taken from 2024's Beautifully Broken.
Redemption and salvation were the two glinting threads that Jelly Roll nimbly wove throughout his performance, with the Nashville native doubling down on the spiritually-minded message behind anthems such as ‘Save Me’, ‘Need a Favor’ and ‘Son of a Sinner’.
Jelly Roll took time out to talk to the crowd at various points, with the ‘Winning Streak’ crooner endearingly expressing his gratitude at getting the opportunity to perform for around 50,000 attendees at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.
As ever, Jelly chose to use his platform as a medium for conveying hope and reassurance to fans that might be going through similar struggles to those he has experienced.
Jelly Roll outlined how, with the help of his faith, his life turned around, “God had a different plan for me, and because of that plan, I am on a stadium [stage] right now. Sold-out on a Tuesday night in Salt Lake City, with a message of love, with a message of truth, with a message of redemption, with a message of change, with a message of healing, with the message that music can make it all fucking better, baby”.
As the crowd cheered him on, Jelly Roll movingly went on, “We make real music for real people with real problems, that's what we do. We write songs for real people that have been through real shit in real life, y'all. I believe that music can heal people, I believe that music can help people, I believe that music can be there for us in the darkest moments of our lives, baby, I believe that music can create change”.
The ‘Son of a Sinner’ hitmaker powerfully concluded, “So with that in mind, I want to tell you this from the bottom of my heart - I know what it feels like to feel down and out, I know what that feels like, and if you have ever felt that way and if you are carrying that burden tonight, I want to tell you, it might not be okay today, baby, but I can promise you, by the grace of God it's gonna be alright, Salt Lake City!”
Elsewhere during his enchanting set, Jelly Roll rattled through a playful medley of his favourite covers, such as Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ and Lynyrd Skynyrd's ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.
Jelly Roll has name-checked Cyrus as one of his ideal collaborations in the past, and given his ability to chase down his dreams and make them come true, we wouldn't be surprised if Jelly makes this blockbuster link-up happen in the near future.
Later that evening, with the crowd still galvanised by his heartfelt, motivational set, Jelly Roll came out with his good buddy, Post Malone, to perform ‘Losers’, one of the many highlights from the latter's debut country album last year, F-1Trillion. Next, Post, Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell head to Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on May 7th.
