Hozier has offered fans a first look at his brand new unreleased song, ‘Hymn to Virgil’, which is set to appear on his keenly awaited deluxe project, Unreal Unearth: Unending.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until December 6th before we get to hear the full version of ‘Hymn to Virgil’, but Hozier has teased us today by sharing a snippet of the forthcoming tune.
The clip of ‘Hymn to Virgil’ has been made available as a sound on TikTok, with the Irish singer-songwriter stoking the flames of anticipation ahead of Unreal Unearth: Unending's arrival.
The ‘Too Sweet’ hitmaker has become synonymous with his penchant for blurring the lines between genres and exploring fascinating, unexpected themes that pivot around a central concept. For instance, the original Unreal Unearth album, which dropped in 2023, was inventively inspired by Dante's seven circles of hell.
However, even for Hozier, ‘Hymn to Virgil’ feels highly experimental, with the brief, newly shared clip of the track featuring deep, distorted vocals from the ‘Eat Your Young’ crooner. The song appears to take on a decidedly ambient, atmospheric feel.
As of yet, it's unclear what the core muse of ‘Hymn to Virgil’ is, but it seems likely that - given Hozier's appreciation for classic literature - he is referring to the Roman poet, Virgil. We'll gain the full picture on December 6th, with this tantalising portion of ‘Hymn to Virgil’ being released in tandem with Hozier's multi-disk deluxe vinyl project.
