Anne Wilson has shared a moving new song, ‘Me & Jesus’, dedicated to her good friend, Carly Carter, who passed away suddenly in February 2026 at the age of 22.
Carly joined Anne's tour in 2025 to help minister to the latter's loyal ‘Hey Girl Nation’ fanbase, with the ’God Story’ hitmaker underlining her appreciation for Carly's friendship, and her dedication to talking about God and Jesus with attendees at her shows.
In a heartfelt new video, Anne explains, “In February of this year, I lost a really sweet friend of mine. She passed away unexpectedly and it was so heart-wrenching walking through that time. There were so many questions, so many moments of struggle wrestling with the Lord of ‘Why God’ and ‘Why Carly’, 22 years old and so young, leaving behind beautiful parents and a brother. And I think that time in my life really taught me a lot. It taught me so much about Jesus and His kindness and His grace, and preciousness kind of in the midst of that whole time”.
Anne touchingly goes on, “It was such an interesting time in my life, and so I ended up writing a song a couple days after she passed away that means so much to me. The song is really, really, really personal and I've waited to share it on social media until I felt like it was the right time. So I wanted to share it with y'all now. This song was written about my sweet, precious friend Carly. It's called, ‘Me & Jesus’”.
Back in February, Anne revealed to fans that Carly had passed away in her sleep at 22 years old. Rather than dwelling on the pain, Anne chose to highlight Carly's passion for spreading the Word and the joie-de-vivre she radiated to everyone she met.
Anne mused, “Carly was a light for Christ like I’ve never seen before. She adored Jesus with everything in her. She faithfully walked hand in hand with Him and loved Him with every fiber of her being. She was kind, beautiful, loving, hilarious, and full of JOY”, adding a GoFundMe link to help Carly's family with funeral expenses.
It's hard to think of a better person to capture the heartbreak, confusion and - ultimately - hope that swirls amid the loss of a loved one than Anne, who has so tenderly and viscerally conveyed the unique pain of grief throughout her career so far.
Anne touches on losing her brother, Jacob, at 23 years old on beautifully written odes such as ‘Twenty-Three’ and ‘Seventh of June’. The Kentucky native got her start in music after her rendition of ‘What A Beautiful Name’ at Jacob's funeral went viral.
Across the piano-driven instrumental of ’Me & Jesus’, Anne sings, “Me and Jesus / We've been talking / If I'm honest, I don't really know what to say / But I got questions / Needing answers / I got a heart that's trying to handle so much more than it can take”.
After opening with the feeling of being lost at sea and drowning under the grief, Anne reaches the realisation through her conversation with Jesus that, thanks to Him, she'll never be alone. It's an evocative, bittersweet tribute to the way in which Jesus carries her through all of her struggles and challenges, and how He's always with her and looking after her, even when it feels like the world is a cruel, heartless place.
It follows the arrival of Anne's new book, Rebel, in which the ‘Praying Woman’ crooner explores her relationship with Jesus, and offers advice to readers on their own faith journey.
There's no official release date for ‘Me & Jesus’ just yet, but we're hoping that the ‘God & Country’ singer-songwriter won't keep fans waiting too long for this one, as it feels like a song that will offer comfort to many listeners that are contending with grief.
