They say country music tropes are overused and outdated, but nothing feels more like déjà vu than HARDY teasing a new track, supposedly titled ‘I Am Just A Country Boy’, after he just dropped his EP, COUNTRY!
Filming a video in his truck, HARDY played a recording of him singing: "I am just a country boy / Where I come from didn’t have no choice / But I’ve done well or so I’m told / So baby wear my watch, baby sell my gold"
The most exciting thing about this clip isn’t the clip itself–although we’re all for new music from HARDY–it’s the Easter eggs in the comments that has us asking, is Megan Moroney going to feature on this new track?
Within an hour of the clip being posted, established Nashville songwriter, Jessie Jo Dillon, had tagged Moroney and her manager, Hayley Corbett, in the comments section. Corbett responded with the lyric, “BABY SELL MY GOLDDDD”, whereas the ‘6 Months Later’ singer posted her own comment, writing “Thank God,” and tagging Dillon back. Dillon then replied with, “she’s a country boy 😢😩”.
Moroney and Dillon worked together on the title track of her latest album, Am I Okay?, and HARDY and Dillon have co-written songs before, most recently on ‘Nobody Likes Your Girlfriend’ with Nate Smith. We can probably comfortably conclude that Dillon is a co-writer, but what about Moroney?
This tease comes not too long after HARDY’s feature on Ella Langley’s latest release, ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’. Maybe HARDY is on a run of fierce female collaborations and maybe Moroney truly is always one step behind Langley.
