Since 2016, Canadian trio Wild Rivers have been forging their own path, masterfully toeing the lines between folk, pop and indie.
With the release of their third studio record, Never Better, the group – comprised of Khalid Yassein, Devan Glover and Andrew Oliver – elevate their signature sound even further, coupling it with introspective, thought-provoking prose to boot.
“We approached this record with the mindset, ‘this is who we are.’ We aren’t pretending to be something we’re not, or trying to sound like anyone else. We wanted it to feel easy. We wanted the stories to be real. We wanted to show our true selves as best we could," the band share. "We’re proud of who we’ve become as people and as a team. We truly feel like we’re having the most fun with music that we’ve ever had, and in the most exciting stage of our lives. We’re never better.”
It's an aptly titled album, finding Wild Rivers truly coming into their sound, something they've been mining for the better part of a decade. Growing from their nascency on 2016's self-titled record, which saw them testing out a stripped-back, folk-tinged sound, and 2022's moody Sidelines, featuring their cult-favorite 'Amsterdam,' Never Better marries all the best parts of the Platinum-selling band.
Produced by Wild Rivers and Gabe Wax (Zach Bryan), the eight-song project was recorded in Joshua Tree, CA, with the band reflecting on the past few years of facing burnout, mental health challenges and extended periods on the road. Beneath that, though, the record also sees the trio rediscovering the joy of making music together.
A staple characteristic throughout their discography, Wild Rivers has an uncanny ability to share comfort and catharsis in equal measure, which is on full display across the 23-minute odyssey. Featuring the breezy title track and instant earworm 'Cave', Never Better also includes the emotive, harmony-stricken 'Everywhere I Go' and their first true love song, 'Anyways, I Love You,' two songs that will become permanent fixtures on our playlists for months to come.
In the last few years, Wild Rivers has been nominated for Breakthrough Group of The Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards, as well as garnering over 800 million global streams and supported larger-than-life artists like Noah Kahan and The Chicks on the road.
For the remainder of 2024, the genre-bending band will be embarking on their extensive Everywhere We Go World Tour, with high-profile stops in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Seattle and many more.
