As the excitement builds for the latest Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, we've finally been treated to the first official trailer for Season One.
Although Taylor Sheridan and his team have been careful to keep their cards close to their chests ahead of the series premiere on Sunday, March 1st, they have dropped some explosive hints about who will - and who might not - be featuring in Marshals.
The series is set to follow Grimes as he steps back into the role of beloved fan-favourite character, Kayce, as he settles into life after signing away the Dutton Ranch to Chief Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Reservation in Yellowstone Season 5.
There had been rumours leading up to the official Marshals announcement that Kelsey Asbille - who plays Kayce's wife, Monica, in Yellowstone - would not be featuring in the spin-off. Asbille had not been unveiled as part of the cast, while Brecken Merrill - who appears as Kayce and Monica's son, Tate - has been confirmed for the series, along with Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) and Mo Brings Plenty (Mo).
We were keeping our fingers crossed that Asbille would be booked for Marshals at a later date, but sadly, judging by the new trailer, it seems her fate has been sealed.
Of course, we can't know for sure, but there's a moment in the trailer where a dead body is covered in a bed - one that undoubtedly looks like the cabin Kayce and Monica had been living in. Yellowstone fans are speculating that this is a hint that Monica dies. In the voiceover, Kayce declares, “My family's had this land for almost 150 years. But the only thing I've ever wanted was taken from me”. Throughout Yellowstone, Kayce's priorities were always protecting Monica and Tate, so this line has been interpreted by many as a reference to Monica's death.
We're still hoping this isn't the case, and Kayce and Monica's complex yet defiant relationship was one of the most compelling storylines in the original Yellowstone narrative. But it certainly seems like the writers are teasing her departure from the family. We're counting down the days until March 1st, when we find out for sure...
Marshals airs on CBS on Sundays at 9/8c, with each episode being made available to stream on Paramount+ the day after. The premiere airs on Sunday, March 1st 2026.
