The country music rumour mill is abuzz once again, with the latest bout of conjecture pivoting around Tucker Wetmore and Ella Langley. Fans are convinced that the duo are dating, and that Wetmore's new song, ‘Sunburn’, is about Langley.
It comes after the two country artists were spotted vacationing together in St. Barthélemy at the end of last year. Some immediately jumped to the conclusion that they were romantically involved, while others simply assumed they were working on new music.
Now, with the arrival of Wetmore's rose-tinted, island-inspired new single, ‘Sunburn’, the speculation has been re-ignited. It finds the ‘3,2,1’ hitmaker regaling listeners with a sun-soaked tale of holiday love, beginning, “I flew in all alone to play some songs on the beach / Was supposed to be in and out, ended up stayin' all week”.
Given how recently Wetmore was seen holidaying with Langley, fans are inevitably wondering whether the narrative of ’Sunburn’ originated from their trip to the Virgin Islands.
Before we run too far down that road, it's worth flagging that Wetmore is not listed as a co-writer on ‘Sunburn‘. Rather, it was penned by Daniel Ross, Ryan Hurd and Jaxson Free. As a result, it's unlikely the song was directly inspired by true events relating to Wetmore's life, unless he gave the writers a theme to write around.
Given the fact that the ’Wine Into Whiskey’ singer-songwriter is a co-writer on the majority of his catalogue, it would be a little weird if Wetmore did give the writers a premise to work from, and then wasn't involved in the proceeding writing session.
What's adding to all the buzz, though, is the fact that Wetmore and Langley sang ‘Sunburn’ together at the Heart Strings for Hope benefit concert last week, which raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Fans have been making a big deal out of the way in which they seemed to sing the song to one another.
Then, a few fans online alleged that they saw Langley getting onto Wetmore's bus, with a video emerging on TikTok of this supposedly happening. It's unclear whether the person in the clip is indeed Langley, or even if it's Wetmore's bus she's stepping onto.
Either way, the rumours are flying, and with Wetmore continuing to tease his next “Loverboy” era, it seems we have plenty more romantic offerings on the horizon from the Washington prodigy, which we suspect will in turn keep the speculation alive.
Regardless of whether Wetmore and Langley are in fact dating, collaborating or simply bumped into each other in the British Virgin Islands, the conjecture surrounding them is the latest chapter in a long line of country romance-related fan-theories.
It's not the first time Wetmore or Langley have found themselves at the centre of this amateur sleuthing, with many claiming the former's recent single ‘Proving Me Right’ is about Riley Green, after Green took Wetmore's former flame, Bryana Ferringer, as his date to the CMA Awards 2025. Similarly, Langley was romantically linked to Green throughout their ‘you look like you love me’ rollout, before they were then embroiled in a supposed love triangle with Megan Moroney.
Who knows what's fact and what's fiction - we certainly don't. What we do know, though, is that Wetmore's new single, ‘Sunburn’, is a certified summer earworm, while Langley's recent release, ‘Be Her’, continues the momentum built from the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping ‘Choosin‘ Texas’, ahead of her new album, Dandelion.
