The hardest thing in life is death. The pain of losing someone you love can feel almost unbearable sometimes, but it’s times like these when something as small and simple as a song can make the burden feel a little lighter. Even if it’s only for a moment.

“It’s a song that I wrote as a way to cope with grief,” Morgan Johnston explains about her new single, 'Heaven Knows'. “It was never written with the intention of releasing it, but the impact I’ve seen it have on people has put it on my heart for it to be shared with the world.”

“In October of 2021 I suddenly lost a man who was very special to me,” she says. “He was a good, hard-working man who was known for his outpouring generosity, his light-hearted humor and approach to life. He was like a second father to me and losing him rocked my world. Writing a song and imagining him making the same impact in heaven that he made down here on earth was the only thing that brought me some relief from the sadness.”

“Heaven knows he's up there right now with his boots and tool belt on,’ she sings on the song. “Fixing up those pearly gates whether they needed it or not.”

Taking her country cues from Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini, ‘Heaven Knows’ is a delicately balanced pop country ballad that paints the joy and pain of life in perfect detail, wearing its heart proudly on its sleeve for all the world to see.

“If you’ve ever lost a father, a grandfather, a father figure or just a man who was special to you in your life, I hope this song makes you think of them.”

'Heaven Knows' is premiering exclusively on Holler below.

Growing up on the family farm on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Morgan's passion for songwriting led her all the way to Nashville where she’s been making a name for herself ever since as a regular at Song Suffragettes and supporting Dustin Lynch.

Early singles 'Good Guy' and her debut EP There's No Going Back led to Johnston being named as a Spotlight Artist and One to Watch by our dear friends over at Absolute Radio Country.

‘Heaven Knows’ follows her previous single, the viral hit 'Like It's His Job', and it caps the most exciting period of Morgan Johnston's career with a recent opening slot for Lainey Wilson and having recently signed a joint venture publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music, Sixteen Sound and Jennasis Music.

‘Heaven Knows’ is released on September 22nd and available to presave here.
