During a forthcoming interview with Holler at Railbird Festival 2024 in Lexington, Kentucky, Marcus King shared who his dream collaboration would be - and it's safe to say this is one we desperately hope comes to fruition in the near future.
King revealed his ideal duet would be with Post Malone, with the South Carolina crooner emphasising how much he appreciates Posty's commitment to authenticity in his songwriting.
After excitingly confirming his intentions to hit the studio with the Diamond-certified New York singer-songwriter, Marcus King joked, “We'd probably smoke a lot of cigarettes and drink a lot of coffee, and just create. He just seems to have the same addiction to music that I do. Just the same desire to say something that really means, not just create for the sake of it. I'd really look forward to it if we do it”.
With Post Malone continuing his foray into the genre with his record-obliterating collaboration with Morgan Wallen, ‘I Had Some Help’, and teasing new link-ups with Blake Shelton (‘I Can Hear One Calling My Name’) and Luke Combs (‘I Ain't Got A Guy For That’), some assumed he'd stick to a mainstream country vibe for his album.
However, during the 2024 ACM Awards, the ‘Chemical’ hitmaker debuted a brand new track that explored a much more traditional-leaning sound, ‘Never Love You Again’.
In addition, Posty has gushed in past interviews about his love for the alternative side of country music, citing Colter Wall, Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson as some of his favourites. With Marcus King one of the leading lights in this edgier, rock-tinged branch of the genre, a Post Malone and Marcus collaboration would undoubtedly produce sparks, and would offer a nice balance to Posty's record. We're keeping our fingers crossed Post Malone reciprocates Marcus King's keenness to come together for a writing session before too long.
Marcus King's conversation with Holler took place at Railbird Festival 2024, with the likes of Noah Kahan, Hozier, Turnpike Troubadours and Chris Stapleton joining King on the stellar bill.
