Ella Langley has shared a new video of her light-heartedly lip-syncing to Kaitlin Butts’ 2024 anthem, ‘You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)’, via TikTok, while doing some cooking. Some fans are claiming that she may be ‘stirring the pot’ in more ways than one.
In the clip, Langley jovially mouths the hilarious lyrics as Butts’ playful, post-break-up earworm plays in the background (“I think, I think I heard he got run over by a train / Mauled by a bear, maybe...hopefully / You ain’t gotta die to be dead to me”).
Butts has responded in the comments section, again showcasing her wit with an amusing nod to Langley's dinner, “MY GURL. You *ate* with this one. (Also thank you ilysm)”. The ‘you look like you love me’ singer-songwriter has replied warmly, “ily”.
Given all the speculation and furore that has been swirling around Ella Langley and Riley Green ever since they first released ‘you look like you love me’, with fans desperately hoping the chemistry they exude on the track betrays a secret, real-life romance, some followers are implying that Langley's new video may be a dig at Green.
The suggestion seems to be that Langley has chosen this song as a veiled jibe at Green, due to the latter recently being supposedly spotted holidaying with Megan Moroney.
The internet is convinced there's some kind of love triangle here, with Riley Green and Megan Moroney spending time together in St. Bart's earlier in the year. Moroney dismissed any notion of there being a relationship in her March Rolling Stone interview.
However, we reckon Ella Langley simply paying homage to one of her fellow female country titans, Kaitlin Butts, with ‘You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)’ following a similarly traditional-leaning, part-spoken structure to ‘you look like you love me’.
We're just happy Ella Langley has decided to spotlight ‘You Ain't Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)’, with Kaitlin Butts’ stellar album, Roadrunner!, an underrated gem from last year.
