Some songs just write themselves. That seems to be the case with Ella Langley's recent smash, 'Be Her', which will be included on her upcoming album, Dandelion.
In fact, in conversation with fellow country hitmaker Jo Dee Messina at CRS 2026, the artist revealed the song simply "fell out" and was a full-fledged tune within half an hour.
"One of the quickest writes on the record," she explained of the ditty, adding, "In like 30 minutes we had the song done."
While an undeniable bop, with an infectious rhythm and slick grooves, 'Be Her' is a deeply self-reflective song about growth, an anthem to becoming the best version of oneself. During their conversation, Messina revealed that the song even moved her to tears upon hearing the number for the first time.
Langley went on to say the making of the song was natural, describing, "I just literally sat there and said things I wanted to work on. When I was writing, I was really thinking of myself looking at a mirror."
She added, "I didn't want people to think that this song was about trying to be someone else. It's not about being another woman or looking at someone and thinking like, 'God, I wish I had hair like that' ... But it really is about looking at yourself."
Langley penned the song alongside Jordan Schmidt, Smith Ahnquist, and Michael Hardy. While she found it funny, writing 'Be Her' with three men, she praised them all for their willingness to get vulnerable.
"Anyone can think about the things that they'd change or like to work on," she continued, "so I think they could pull from that genuine place."
Being unguarded seems to be a necessity when writing alongside the country star, who says her writing sessions are all about honesty and openness.
As she shared, "Everyone in this town that writes with me knows way too much about my life. I am in there spilling in the tea, for sure. I gotta write about something and luckily for me, my life is an insane place to live."
