Dolly Parton has received her first Covid-19 vaccine. Recently credited with funding the Moderna vaccine after donating $1m to the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, the star’s contribution went towards early-stage trials of the vaccine.

She also rewrote the lyrics to one of her most successful songs ‘Jolene’ in the video, promoting the jab; “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you, please don't hesitate”.

A good friend and researcher at Vanderbilt gave Parton her vaccine in front of the press.

The Moderna vaccine is thought to give 95% protection against the Covid-19 virus.

Parton told the Associated Press last month that she wanted to wait until vaccines were more widely available before getting it herself, adding “I don’t want it to look like I’m jumping the line”.

In a video she released, Parton said, “I’m old enough to get it and I’m smart enough to get it”, before going on to encourage others to do the same.

“I just want to say to all of you cowards out there - don't be such a chicken squat. Get out there and get your shot”.
