Over the weekend, rising country star Zach Top traded in his cowboy hat for some super tight jorts, joining Dierks Bentley's parody band Hot Country Knights for a wildly entertaining performance at The Country Fest in Ohio.
Performing under the tongue in cheek alias Billy Bottoms, Top leaned into the hilarity alongside the Knights, fronted by none other than Bentley’s alter ego, Douglas Douglason. The group - famous for their over-the-top ‘90s country personas and throwback flair, welcomed Top into the chaos with open arms, mullet wigs, and a whole lot of denim.
The night’s undeniable highlight came when the band launched into a raucous rendition of John MIcheal Monthgomery’s 1995 hit, 'Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)'. The energy was electric as Bottoms and Douglason traded rapid-fire verses and shared the spotlight with comic commentary and country swagger.
Their onstage chemistry was seamless - unsurprising, given that Bentley and Top recently took the stage together at CMA Fest to sing “Mountain Music” by Alabama. While that performance showed off their traditional chops, this one proved they’re just as strong when they're leaning into the fun and not taking themselves too seriously.
It was a night of pure country chaos, and we are already waiting for a Billy Bottoms comeback.
The raucous night comes as Top prepares to release his third album, the hotly anticipated Ain't In It For My Health. Dropping the first track, 'Good Times & Tan Lines', right after his set on the Main Stage at Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest, the Washington native looks set to light the country world alight once again this year with this brand new record.
Bentley, meanwhile, just released his brand new album, Broken Branches, on Friday (June 13). The album, which received a collective 5.4 / 10 from Holler's staff, possesses guest features from Riley Green, Miranda Lambert and Stephen Wilson Jr.
