Did Noah Kahan Just Tease His ‘Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Soundtrack Involvement?

Did Noah Kahan just confirm his long-rumoured involvement in the Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping soundtrack? Fans think so, after the Vermont native posted a cryptic video via his secondary TikTok account, @thelastofthebugs.

Alongside a clip of Kahan looking into the camera against what appears to be a sunrise backdrop, he shares the mysterious caption, “The birds sound louder than the bugs tonight”. Kahan used @thelastofthebugs to drop clues during his rollout for The Great Divide.

The ‘bugs’ is an obvious reference to his recurring ‘The Last Of The Bugs’ imagery throughout his 2026 album, The Great Divide, with Kahan referencing the insects across the record, and even releasing a deluxe version called The Last Of The Bugs.

But fans are speculating that his reference here to ‘birds’ could be a nod to the first Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. What's more, it looks like it's sunrise behind him, a possible clue related to the new film, Sunrise on the Reaping.

In November, the next Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, hits cinemas. Kahan has been linked to the movie for months now, with ‘insider’ reports last year suggesting the ‘Stick Season’ hitmaker was in talks to write a song especially for it.

Around the time that The Great Divide was being promoted, there was conjecture that the song could be ‘Staying Still’, but Kahan then released that song on the deluxe.

We suspect that, if Kahan is hinting at his involvement in the Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping soundtrack with this cryptic video, he'll have penned a song in honour of the new project, rather than recycling an old or previously teased offering.

If he was to reuse an older song, though, we'd love for it to be ‘Pain is Cold Water’. So far, we've had to make do with the Live from Fenway version, with Kahan confessing ahead of the The Great Divide that he just couldn't find a way to naturally finish it.

It would mark a heartwarming full-circle moment for the folk titan, given the fact that he was previously meant to have a theme-song for a high-profile Netflix movie - rumoured to be To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You - but his track, ‘Remember Everything’, ended up not being used, something he's discussed on socials.

It would certainly feel apt for the new Hunger Games film to utilise another folk-leaning soundtrack, after the previous prequel saw a host of folk and bluegrass favourites contributing songs, including Sierra Ferrell, Charles Wesley Godwin and Molly Tuttle. It makes sense to opt for this style of music to accompany these films, given how Suzanne Collins based District 12 on the real-life Appalachian region.

The lead single, of course, was Olivia Rodrigo's ‘Can't Catch Me Now’, and we suspect that, given how much buzz there is around his potential involvement, if Kahan has written a song for the Sunrise on the Reaping soundtrack, it will surely be the focus track.
