Megan Moroney just won the first ever MTV VMA Best Country award for the title-track to her celebrated sophomore album, ‘Am I Okay?’, as well as performing a stellar rendition of her new single, ’6 Months Later’, during the live broadcast.
It ensures the momentum remains sky-high ahead of the Georgia native's eagerly anticipated third album - and during her pre-performance interviews, we think Moroney dropped the strongest hint yet as to the project's long-awaited colour theme.
The ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter's debut album, Lucky, was given a green theme, while Am I Okay? was permeated by blue hues. The chosen palette for each era dictates much of the styling, outfit choices and overall creative direction for the visuals around the project, so fans have been keenly looking forward to finding out which colour Moroney's next studio record will pivot around.
She's been teasing in recent months that she knows which colour this will be, with fans scouring the ‘Six Months Later’ music video for hints about the forthcoming theme. Yellow was a frontrunner a few months ago, due to Moroney wearing a striking yellow dress to the 2025 ACM Awards, but this was seemingly a red herring.
Cleverly, Moroney wore a variegated array of colours during this video, leaving fans to hedge their bets as to which would prove the final theme. Some speculated that purple might be the winner, given the fact that this is the colour she wears in the single's artwork, and during the Karma Now! hotline scenes in the video.
Following the MTV VMA Awards, we think Moroney might have just confirmed that purple will indeed be the key colour for her new album. During the set, she wore a purple dress inspired by the ’Six Months Later’ artwork, and the lighting was all purple.
Moroney also drew viewers’ attention towards the colour during her pre-show interview with Billboard, outlining, “My outfit is reminiscent of the ‘Six Months Later’ cover”, before pointing to her purple necklace and teasing, “Got a little bit of purple...”
There's no release date for Moroney's Am I Okay? follow-up album just yet, but it's expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks. The project is due to feature ‘Six Months Later’ and the blockbuster Kenny Chesney collaboration, ‘You Had To Be There’.
Moroney has also been sharing clips of unreleased tracks via socials, such as the evocative ‘Table for Two’ and ‘Beautiful Things’. In June, the ‘Indifferent’ hitmaker revealing “I think the album is written”, so we hope an announcement is on the horizon.
Elsewhere during her conversation with Billboard, Moroney gushed about her MTV VMA triumph, “That’s crazy. I mean, this is my first VMAs, and I had no expectations going in. So it’s a win, and I get to perform later. Expectations are exceeded, we’re going to have a good night, and it’s just really cool to be here. My fans are the best. It’s a fan-voted award, so, it doesn’t surprise me that they voted their tails off”.
By taking home the coveted gong, Moroney becomes the first artist in history to win the newly added, fan-voted Best Country MTV VMA award. The fast-emerging crooner was up against Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson and more.
