“God Spoke to Him”: Did Forrest Frank Confirm a Key Detail About Thomas Rhett's Next Album?

As Thomas Rhett continues to hint at a new musical era on the horizon, it seems his friend and collaborator, Forrest Frank, might have given us a clue about Rhett's next album.

While chatting on JT Smith's NEVER HAD A BAD DAY podcast, Forrest, who has cemented himself as one of the biggest Contemporary Christian Music artists in the modern landscape, reflects on his friendship with the ‘Die a Happy Man’ hitmaker.

The conversation took place shortly after Rhett joined Forrest on-stage in Nashville, with Rhett infamously spraining his ankle while running down from the stands to meet Forrest.

Forrest outlines how Rhett got in touch with him straight after to share how he felt the injury was a divine message, “[Rhett] immediately was texting like, ‘This is God, like, I needed this’. I don't know the nuances of it, and yeah, I don't know how much I'm allowed to say. But basically he had been putting off making Christian music, because he's a 20-time No. 1 country dude, like, he's got all this trajectory”.

Forrest goes on to reveal that the ‘Country Again’ singer-songwriter had been sending him a plethora of new Christian-inspired songs, “He said for years he had been thinking about doing Christian music, and something about him hurting his ankle...God spoke to him. And so the next day he was like, ‘Dude, I just wrote, like, eight Christian songs today’. And he's, like, blowing up my phone...I think I literally have a song that I haven't listened to on my phone that he sent me”.

Forrest highlights how this is an example of Christian music's wider popularity boom, which has been fuelled by trailblazing artists like himself, Brandon Lake and Josiah Queen.

The ‘GOOD DAY’ chart-topper outlines, “So that thing of just like, ‘Hey, Christian music's taking over’. It's happening. And I see people in my comments like, ‘Bro, stop saying Christian music's taking over, you're just bragging about yourself’. I'm like, ‘No, dude, there is a movement happening, and I'm tapped in enough to see it...So when you say, ‘What happened in Nashville?’ Really I think that's what happened, is something shifted where [Rhett's] now gonna be doing Gospel music. So TBD on if it comes out...I'm pretty stoked, dude”.

Rhett's faith has always been at the heart of his music, but given he recently started a new video series where he reads portions of Sarah Young's Jesus Calling devotional, it feels like he's decided to make this front-and-centre moving forward.

With Rhett exploring his relationship with God and Jesus on powerful, intimate offerings in the past, like ‘Beer with Jesus’, ‘Ya Heard’, ’Be a Light’ and ‘God Who Listens’, we're excited to see him delving into this soul-stirring vein on his next record.

In tandem with the unveiling of his 2027 Soundtrack to My Life Tour announcement, Rhett hinted that he was “turning a brand new page”. He's been performing an unreleased song, ‘Sky Fall’, in which he sings about his family and Jesus.

With Rhett also being a key part of Brandon Lake's country-Christian crossover writing sessions earlier in the year, it definitely feels like all the signs are pointing towards a Christian project from Rhett. With a blockbuster tour lined up for 2027, we're hoping Rhett starts treating us to a faith-filled single or two before the year is out.
