Darius Rucker was arrested on Thursday afternoon (February 1st, 2024), with the Hootie & The Blowfish frontman reportedly facing charges of simple possession, casual exchange of a controlled substance and violation of vehicle registration law.
Shortly after, the ’Wagon Wheel’ singer-songwriter was released on a $10,500 bond. Rucker's lawyer, Mark Puryear, has shared an official statement underlining that his client is “fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanour charges”.
Darius Rucker's was taken into custody in Williamson County, Tennessee, and although the artist's mugshot has been released, the details of what led to his arrest have yet to be revealed.
The incident arrives after a busy period for Darius Rucker, with the ‘Beers and Sunshine’ hitmaker being honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023.
Two months prior, Rucker released his eighth studio album, Carolyn's Boy, his first solo project in six years, featuring popular tracks such as ‘Fires Don't Start Themselves’ and ‘Lift Me Up’.
This new incident involving Darius Rucker marks the second high-profile artist arrest in Tennessee in less than two weeks, with Chris Young having been placed into jail on Monday, January 22nd. All the charges against Young have since been dropped.
