Although Chris Stapleton hasn't released a new album in almost three years, that hasn't stopped him from continuing his impressive streak of awards nominations.

The Kentucky crooner has been nominated for the 2023 CMT Award for Performance of the Year.

The nomination is for his CMT Giants rendition of ‘Whenever You Come Around’, during the 2022 celebration of fellow country legend, Vince Gill.

The emotional performance served as an homage to Vince Gill's iconic 1994 hit, and viewers unanimously praised Stapleton's heartfelt rendition of the track.

In order to prove victorious in his 2023 CMT Awards category, Stapleton will have to fight it out with an array of big-name acts from across the industry, including Cody Johnson for his high-octane 2022 CMT Music Awards performance of ‘‘Til You Can't’.

Also nominated for Performance of the Year is Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson for their stellar delivery of ‘Never Say Never’ at the same awards show, along with Darius Rucker's CMT Storytellers version of the Hootie & The Blowfish classic, ‘Let Her Cry’.

Viewers will be hoping that CMT recruit Chris Stapleton to perform live at the 2023 awards ceremony - and if he does, his performance could well earn him another nod in the same category next year.

The 2023 CMT Awards will be hosted once again by Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, both of whom have received nominations for the evening's most coveted prize, Video of the Year.

Speaking to Holler last month, Ballerini underlined her excitement at getting to host the event in person, after COVID-19 forced her to do it from home last year.

Following the release of her Rolling Up the Welcome Mat 2023 EP, Kelsea Ballerini joins Holler to discuss her discography, songwriting and plans for the year.
