Charles Wesley Godwin recently took the Grand Ole Opry stage bearing more than just good songs. He had some good news, too, telling the crowd that a fresh batch of new music will be headed our way in the New Year.
"Recorded an EP throughout the course of the year, so I'm gonna have some new music coming out early next year," the artist took a moment to share onstage, before delving into one of the upcoming offerings.
"This is one of those songs," he said. "This is called 'It's the Little Things'."
Born from sturdy drums and shimmering steel, the tune rifles through life's highs and lows, the hard knocks and the swift triumphs as Godwin flexes a Gordon Lightfoot-esque inflection. In the end, though, the song celebrates the little things.
In fan-captured footage, the artist can be heard listing them off in his enchanting croon, singing, "It's the little things / Like the first sip of coffee / Like the sun rising on me / Like the look she gives in the morn' / I can go downtown, have a little drive around / Or cruise these streets 'til [..?..] / It's the little things."
A new release would mark the follow-up to Godwin's 2023 album, Family Ties, a release that found him wholly unearthing his Appalachian roots to sing earnestly about his life and family.
"This is pure country-folk," reads a Holler review of the collection. "Charles Wesley Godwin melds the genres with the expertise of an artist who, like his friend and touring companion Zach Bryan, is unwavering in his approach; encouraging the audience to join him as he traverses the country roads that take him back home."
The star made his most recent Opry appearance as a member of the Opry NextStage class of 2024, alongside fellow rising talent like Wyatt Flores, Ella Langley, Flatland Cavalry and more.
Over the course of the year, these artists have received dedicated support from the Grand Ole Opry institution, in partnership with Tecovas. Through featured original content, performances and promotion across brand platforms, the Opry has worked to elevate this NextStage class, introducing the them to new fanbases, expanding their audiences and giving them tools to succeed in their burgeoning careers.
