Cash Cortes is blazing his own trail in the country landscape with a unique style of music he's calling ‘Cowboy Reggaeton’. The South Florida native embraces his Puerto Rican heritage by infusing Latin-leaning instrumentation and Spanish phrases and lyrics into unmistakably country - and undoubtedly infectious - anthems.

Armed with songs like the stampeding ‘Narcos’, which follows a protagonist who playfully compares his addiction to his partner's affection to that of a drug baron, and the soaring ‘ICU’, which arrives on June 5th, Cortes is ripping up the country rulebook.

He's at the forefront of an exciting new wave of artists blending Latin-inspired riffs with country melodies, such as Carín León. It's a sub-genre that's proving increasingly popular with younger listeners. Cortes’ ‘Narcos’, for instance, is currently enjoying a viral moment, with the galvanising track surging past one million streams on Spotify alone at the time of writing, while his recent clip of Vic Szn reacting to him performing ‘Narcos’ sits at a whopping 11.1 million views on Instagram.

Inevitably, country traditionalists and so-called ‘purists’ often view artists that blur the lines between genres in this way with a degree of skepticism, as we've seen with outside-the-box songs from the likes of Shaboozey, Morgan Wallen, BigXthaPlug and more.

And while some attempts to crossover between country and pop, Hip-Hop, EDM and other genres can feel a little superficial and commercially-minded, the key differentiator is clear: authenticity. And, without question, Cortes is creating a style of music that is true to what he wants to make, and that feels compellingly sincere.

Even within his self-titled ‘Cowboy Reggaeton’ sub-genre, he flits between textures with a classic country atmosphere to songs that carry a distinctly Latin ambience. At other times, Cortes delves wholeheartedly into Contemporary Christian Music, with his faith playing a pivotal role in both his personal life and his creative output.

Earlier this month, for instance, Cortes - who calls himself the ‘Space Cowboy’ across socials - hopped on Forrest Frank's uber-viral ‘Jesus is Alive’ open-verse trend, delivering a soul-stirring, reggaeton-meets-gospel performance that has struck a chord with fans. We're hoping Cortes makes it onto Forrest's final version of the track.

He is also part of The Wild Roses, a new band consisting of Cortes and his wife, Lexzy, which was seemingly formed last summer. The duo perform an array of stellar, intricate covers - again highlighting the ‘La Rose’ crooner's refreshing versatility.

With ‘ICU’ dropping in a matter of weeks and a major tour seemingly in the works, we suspect 2026 will be a blockbuster year for the fast-emerging artist. With a boundary-defying sound and a joyful message behind it, we're excited to see what's next from the ‘Teach a Man How to Pray’ singer-songwriter. Watch this space.

Cash Cortes’ new single, ‘ICU’, is out on June 5th, 2026
