In under 10 seconds, emerging artist Cade Mower earned all four chair turns for his rendition of Zach Bryan's 'Something In The Orange.'
Mower's appearance comes from the round of blind auditions in 'The Voice's' current Season 30, with panelists Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and country's very own Riley Green judging each contestant.
As the 35-year-old Utah native stood on stage with nothing but an acoustic guitar and vocals that appeared to the likings of all four panelists, Mower sang the song's iconic opening, It'll be fine by dusk light, I'm telling you, baby. By the end of the line, he received an immediate turnaround from Maroon 5's Adam Levine, followed by Kelly Clarkson, then Queen Latifah, and finally, Riley Green.
With all four stars turned around, he continues with a sense of excitement in his voice he somehow managed to contain, allowing it to drive him through the next line, These things eat at your bones and drive your young mind crazy.
After the song, when Levine, Clarkson, Latifah, and Green had the opportunity to give Mower their pitches, one thing stood out. The blown-away attitude all four of these stars took to Mower's performance came from a country song and voice. Surely, it's a testament to the hit's specific outreach, but moreover, it shows what today's country is doing in some of music's most famous spaces.
While Mower's pick for which star will be guiding him through the competition won't be revealed until the show's fourth night of blind auditions, it seems obvious to wish for a pairing between Mower and Green. Of course, it feels logical to let country meet country. One could argue though that a match up with Levine, Clarkson, or Latifah may allow the country singer to reach new heights, and meet new musical challenges that may help him all the more with his craft. Regardless, we're sure that whoever Mower does choose, his talents will only be elevated.
The lyric driven 'Something In The Orange' is a song that once inhaling to sing, can only be exhaled with a certain emotional rawness that is impossible to fake. Mower does just this in his captivating, truly unique audition. Stepping out into the music scene from a space of being older, wiser, and perhaps more well-versed in life compared to younger break-out artists, Mower comes with experience. He sings the Zach Bryan hit from his soul, passing a message the panelists received almost instantly.
Cade Mower is a financial advisor by profession, a husband and father full-time, and a singer-songwriter all in between. On the sidelines of his debut performance, stood his wife and two young children. With his professional work by day, Mower supports his family. With his creative pursuits by night, he supports himself. He reminds us that even with life's noble pursuits, such as a practical career and raising a family, where there is a passion for music, there's a need to chase, and a need to pursue. That pursuit brought the Nashville-based jack of all trades in front of some of music's biggest stars, where they came face to face with Mower's raw talent and pure potential.
